Netherlands headquartered Mazarine Energy has agreed to acquire Black Sea Oil Gas, Romania's largest offshore gas producer. Offshore Energy and London South East both reported that the exploration and production company reached a deal to buy the producer from private equity firm Carlyle and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Reuters and Global Banking and Finance Review also reported the sale of the Romanian offshore natural gas producer by Carlyle Group. [1][8][9][10][11]

The transaction expands Mazarine Energy's presence in the Romanian energy sector as the nation seeks to increase domestic natural gas supplies. Offshore Energy reported that Mazarine Energy is a subsurface driven private exploration and production company. The completion of the deal remains subject to customary closing conditions, according to Offshore Energy. [1]

The targeted company, Black Sea Oil Gas, operates key natural gas production assets located offshore in Romanian waters. The exit by private equity firm Carlyle and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development marks a major ownership shift for the energy producer, as reported by Offshore Energy, Reuters, and London South East.
