Perenco UK has completed a subsea asset decommissioning campaign in the Southern North Sea, Offshore Energy and World Oil reported. The project was carried out alongside specialist contractor Petrodec, which is part of the Dixstone group. Offshore Energy reported that the campaign is considered a step forward for asset retirement activity in the region. [1][3]

The campaign involved the plug and abandonment of subsea assets across two areas, according to Offshore Energy. The work covered the Leman South 53/02a-15Y asset and the Durango 48/21a-4z asset, which were completed within a single campaign framework. [1]

The North Sea lies on the European continental shelf between Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. Economically, the region has seen major transformation since the mid 20th century through offshore oil and gas extraction. Perenco was founded in 1975 as a marine services company and later specialized in purchasing and operating mature assets. [4][6][7]

In related regional energy activity, the New York Times reported that Britain is said to approve new gas drilling at the Jackdaw field off the coast of Scotland. The project would represent the first new gas extraction project in the North Sea since a government moratorium in 2024. [2]
