At least four people have died in the southeastern United States after post tropical cyclone Isaias moved northward across the region on Saturday. Phys.org, The New York Times, Alabama Daily News, USA Today, France 24, and Le Monde all reported the four fatalities. According to Phys.org, the storm posed flooding and tornado risks as it tracked north after making landfall on the Gulf Coast of Florida. [1][2][3][4][5][6]

Phys.org reported that the storm roared ashore late Friday as a Category 2 hurricane near Destin, Florida, packing maximum sustained winds of 105 miles per hour, or 165 kilometers per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm weakened overnight as it moved inland over Alabama. Phys.org noted that Isaias was the first hurricane of an Atlantic season tamed by a historic El Niño weather pattern. [1][7]

As FTMQ Climate reported earlier, fatalities were caused by falling trees and storm conditions across Florida and Alabama. The storm knocked out electricity to at least 500,000 customers across several southern states and shut down 72 percent of offshore oil production in the United States Gulf Coast region. [7][8]
