Rockhopper Exploration has committed 44 million dollars from its cash reserves to secure a 35 percent interest in a second floating production, storage, and offloading vessel destined for the Falkland Islands. Offshore Energy and Upstream Online both reported the transaction on October 7, 2026. The UK based oil and gas exploration company is allocating the funds to support an oil project located in the North Falkland Basin. [1][2]

The vessel, named FPSO OSX 1, was originally purchased in August 2026. Offshore Energy reported that acquiring the unit forms part of an accelerated development plan to unlock the offshore energy potential in the region. [1]

The Falkland Islands have experienced active exploration and colonisation since the 18th century. Control of the territory has been a matter of historical controversy, with claims made by France, Britain, Spain, and Argentina over time. [3]
