Wind power is set to take on a larger role in India round-the-clock and firm dispatchable renewable energy projects to meet growing electricity demand, Deccan Herald and ET EnergyWorld reported. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi announced the shift at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026. [1][2]

Sarangi stated at the summit Wind Plenary Session that wind generation complements solar energy, making it critical for maintaining a reliable supply of renewable power. Deccan Herald reported that the growing contribution of wind energy is already visible in recent renewable tenders by the Solar Energy Corporation of India. [1]

Solar power is already a major source of electricity in the country following extensive government initiatives introduced since the mid-2010s. By September 2026, the installed solar power capacity in India reached 171.05 gigawatts. The nation ranks as the third-largest global producer of solar power, behind China and the United States. [4]
