Fast moving Norte Fire burns homes and prompts evacuations in California

Evacuation orders are in effect in Southern California after a rapidly growing wildfire burned six homes south of Los Angeles. BBC News reported that the Norte Fire started on Friday in Orange County and expanded quickly. Driven by Santa Ana winds, the fire reached 570 acres, or 2.3 square kilometres, by Saturday morning, with firefighter containment at 5 percent. [1]

Emergency crews faced difficult conditions on the ground. BBC News reported that one firefighter suffered heat exhaustion while battling the blaze. The US National Weather Service issued red flag warnings across multiple California counties because strong winds, dry vegetation, and low humidity created critical conditions for rapid wildfire spread. The Norte Fire is one of 13 wildfires currently burning across the state. Officials noted that the Santa Ana winds will continue to blow through Saturday, raising the risk of additional blazes developing in the region. [1]
