British International Investment, the development finance institution of the United Kingdom, plans to invest and mobilize 1.6 billion dollars for climate projects in Southeast Asia over the next five years. The Manila Times reported the commitment on October 12, 2026. [1]

The institution will directly provide 800 million dollars and aims to secure the remaining half from private investors. The funds will target nations such as the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand to assist their transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy systems. [1]

According to The Manila Times, a major portion of the funds will be directed through British Climate Partners. The initiative was formed earlier in 2026 to assist rapidly expanding Asian economies that produce high carbon emissions. [1]

Southeast Asia lies south of China, east of the Indian subcontinent, and northwest of Australia. The region includes both mainland areas in the Northern Hemisphere and maritime areas that extend into the Southern Hemisphere. [2]
