South Korea has introduced a national green transition strategy named the K-GX plan, IndexBox and SolarQuarter reported. According to IndexBox, the country plans to allocate 747 billion dollars to the strategy through 2035. [1][5]
The policy initiative comes as foreign offshore wind developers adjust their investments in the region. BigGo Finance reported that Spanish energy company Iberdrola is exiting the offshore wind power market in South Korea, citing political risk. [4]
The government is also facing international economic pressure regarding fossil fuel infrastructure. As FTMQ Climate reported earlier, the United States government has used tariff pressure to encourage South Korean investment in the proposed 54 billion dollar Alaska LNG project. That natural gas project features an 807 mile pipeline managed by the state owned Alaska Gasline Development Corporation. [9]
In parallel commercial developments related to changing Arctic sea ice, Phys.org reported that the South Korean container ship PanStar Acro completed a trial voyage through an Arctic shipping route. The vessel returned on October 11, 2026, after making a round trip to Europe faster than the traditional passage through the Suez Canal. [2]
