Sunny spring weather has produced a series of renewable energy records across Australia over the past five days. RenewEconomy reported that rooftop solar generation reached a new output peak on the National Electricity Market, Australia’s primary power grid. [1]

According to RenewEconomy, the recent surge in solar output surpassed the previous generation record for the National Electricity Market by almost half a gigawatt. That earlier mark had been established just three weeks prior, before being broken during the recent spell of clear spring weather. [1]

Solar power systems convert energy from sunlight into electricity using photovoltaic panels or concentrated solar power arrays. As FTMQ Climate reported earlier, renewable energy sources supplied 40 percent of overall Australian electricity generation in 2024. [2][4]

Geoff Eldridge from Global Power Energy explained that the new peak capped off a sequence of renewable energy output achievements. Australia continues to add capacity to its major electricity networks as renewable generation increases. [1]
