United States tariff pressure is pushing South Korea to consider investing in the long-delayed Alaska LNG project, Oilprice reported. President Donald Trump has used tariff threats to encourage foreign partners to fund the initiative. However, South Korea's conditional interest remains insufficient to finance the venture, which carries an estimated cost of up to 54 billion dollars. [1]
The proposed infrastructure project involves an 807-mile natural gas pipeline stretching from Prudhoe Bay on the North Slope of Alaska to a planned export terminal in Nikiski on the Kenai Peninsula. The state-owned Alaska Gasline Development Corporation manages the overall project. [6]
Devdiscourse reported that United States Vice President JD Vance stated that details regarding the proposed natural gas pipeline still need to be worked out. Meanwhile, Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that a former Alaska gas coordinator warned that the project is too risky and urged South Korea to exercise caution. [3][4]
