Italian power generation company Ansaldo Energia has returned to the United States market following an order from Pacifico Energy for turbines to power a Texas data center. Stefano Gianatti, executive vice president of thermal new units at Ansaldo Energia, announced the move in an interview reported by Power Engineering. Gianatti stated that rapid growth in power demand, driven by artificial intelligence facilities, data centers, and electrification, prompted the company to make a long-term commitment to the region. [1][2][3]
Power Engineering and Power Engineering Magazine report that demand for gas turbines is currently being driven by project execution speed and grid flexibility requirements. Gianatti noted that the market opportunity is growing at one of its fastest rates in decades. The Pacifico Energy Project forms the initial step in the manufacturer's strategy to establish a broader footprint across the United States power sector. [1][2]
Ansaldo Energia S.p.A. is an Italian joint-stock company that manufactures heavy-duty gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and turnkey power plants. Originally a division of the Ansaldo group, the firm later became part of Leonardo. In December 2013, Leonardo agreed to sell a portion of its stake to the Italian Strategic Fund, completing the transaction at the end of 2017. [3][4]
The company operates as one of the four largest global full-cycle power generation firms. It provides engineering, construction, commissioning, and maintenance services for thermal and combined-cycle baseload power generation facilities alongside its manufacturing business. [4]
