Puget Sound Energy has started developing a 130-megawatt solar farm in the high plains area of Montana, EcoPortal.net reported. The facility, named the Battle Butte Solar Farm, is located just off Interstate Highway I-94. The company targets operational completion by mid-2028. [1]
The solar array is situated in Montana, a state whose name derives from the Spanish word for mountain or mountainous, according to Grokipedia. EcoPortal.net reported that Puget Sound Energy selected the specific location due to its proximity to the utility company's existing renewable energy assets. [1][3]
The solar panels will be constructed alongside an active power site known as the Beaver Creek Wind Project, EcoPortal.net reported. The adjacent wind farm began commercial operation in 2025. Locating the solar installation next to the existing wind farm will allow for easier connection to existing electrical transmission lines. [1]
As FTMQ Climate reported earlier, other global renewable energy developments are also advancing. In Australia, Tilt Renewables completed the 18 concrete turbine foundations for its 108-megawatt Waddi wind project in Western Australia. China is also expanding its clean energy infrastructure, pushing for the widespread adoption of concentrated solar thermal power to build out capacity by around 2030. [4][5]
In short
- Puget Sound Energy is developing the 130-megawatt Battle Butte Solar Farm in Montana.
- The Battle Butte Solar Farm is scheduled to begin operating by mid-2028.
- The solar project is located next to the Beaver Creek Wind Project, which began commercial operation in 2025.
- Co-locating the solar farm with the wind project enables easier access to existing transmission lines.
