Tilt Renewables has completed the concrete turbine foundations for all 18 turbines at its Waddi wind farm in Western Australia, RenewEconomy reported. Construction at the 108 megawatt project began in the first week of August. The milestone clears the path for the delivery of turbine parts to the location. [1]
The project is located approximately 150 kilometres north of Perth, according to RenewEconomy. It represents the first wind farm to start construction in Australia this year, as well as the smallest project to begin building during this period. [1]
Concrete serves as a core material for global infrastructure due to its strength and moldability in fluid form, supporting structures ranging from dams to high-rise building frames. Global production of finished concrete reaches roughly 30 billion metric tonnes annually, though the industry contributes 7 to 8 percent of human-caused carbon dioxide emissions primarily through cement calcination. [4]
The completion of the foundations allows the Waddi project to transition into its next phase of development as assembly of the individual wind turbines begins. [1]
In short
- All 18 concrete turbine foundations have been poured at the Waddi wind farm in Western Australia.
- The Waddi wind farm has a planned generating capacity of 108 megawatts.
- Construction on the project began around 150 kilometres north of Perth in August.
- Waddi is the first wind farm to begin construction in Australia this year.
