Sinopec reported a third-quarter net income of 13.6 billion yuan, or $2 billion, marking an increase of approximately 64 percent from a year earlier, according to Rigzone News and Oilprice. BigGo Finance reported a 57 percent profit increase, while Rigzone News reported that total revenue for the state-owned refiner rose by 9.3 percent to reach 770 billion yuan. [1][2][10]

Average Brent crude prices increased by one third to $91 per barrel during the period, Rigzone News reported. Higher oil prices expanded profit margins for the exploration and drilling divisions of the company, officially known as China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, but simultaneously raised feedstock costs for its refining segment. [1][2]

The price of oil is determined by global supply and demand dynamics and established benchmark prices such as Brent Crude and West Texas Intermediate. Oilprice reported that weakness in domestic fuel demand in China and export controls restricted the ability of the company to capture record-high refining margins. [2][13]

Energy markets continue to experience elevated global crude prices due to ongoing geopolitical conflicts. Oilprice reported that Brent crude was trading at $114.14 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate at $101.45 per barrel, following diplomatic efforts by United States Vice President JD Vance to resume peace negotiations with Iranian officials.
