Renewable energy will grow from 37.7 percent to 40.4 percent of total United States electricity generating capacity over the coming year, according to Electrek. This growth will allow renewable capacity to surpass natural gas and outstrip nuclear capacity fivefold. [1]
Electrek reported that the latest data from the US Energy Information Administration was reviewed by the SUN DAY Campaign. The statistics show that renewably generated electricity during the first eight months of 2026 was 10.2 percent higher than during the same period in the previous year. [1]
The increase in clean energy production was led by utility scale solar power, which expanded by 20.0 percent, Electrek noted. Small scale solar grew by 12.0 percent, wind power rose by 7.8 percent, hydropower increased by 4.2 percent, and geothermal generation expanded by 3.8 percent. [1]
Solar Power World also reported on data from the Energy Information Administration. The outlet noted that total renewable output could overtake natural gas generation in 2027. [2]
