Western Australia has initiated a consultation process to create a technical standard and legal pathway for plug-in solar and battery systems. According to RenewEconomy, Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson announced the move for the Cook government. Current regulations do not permit households to plug generating devices directly into standard electrical sockets. [1]

Plug-in solar systems are small photovoltaic setups designed to generate electricity for direct household use. Wikipedia notes that these systems connect to a building's existing electrical circuit using a standard power outlet or dedicated socket, eliminating the need for major structural modifications or professional installation. [1][3]

RenewEconomy reported that allowing balcony or plug-in solar devices would allow renters and apartment dwellers to access cheaper, cleaner electricity without needing to own a roof. Portable self-supply appliances enable tenants to safely generate power and take the equipment with them when they move. [1]
