Amazon and Constellation Energy have completed a 20-year power purchase agreement aimed at expanding the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Maryland, Utility Dive reported. Under the terms of the deal, the technology company will receive 690 megawatts of electricity from the nuclear generation plant. This allocation includes a 190-megawatt uprate achieved through planned facility expansions and renovations. [1]
According to Utility Dive, the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center currently has a total capacity of 1,790 megawatts, making it the largest single source of clean power in the state of Maryland. The partnership between the energy producer and the technology giant will fund critical improvements and upgrades at the nuclear station to support the higher output capacity. [1]
Utility Dive also reported that Amazon has signed a separate retail supply agreement with Constellation Energy to power its regional operations. This agreement covers facilities within the 13-state PJM market, which represents the largest regional power grid operator in the United States. PJM is responsible for centrally dispatching electricity generation across its multi-state territory. [1]
