Proposed grid-connected natural gas power capacity in the United States has reached 60.4 gigawatts through the end of 2030, Electrek reported. This figure marks a 44 percent increase from the 41.8 gigawatts anticipated in December 2025, according to federal Energy Information Administration filings. [1]

The expansion of planned natural gas infrastructure is largely driven by rising power demand from data centers, Electrek said. Overall proposed gas capacity has nearly tripled since early 2023, while planned additions for wind power are declining. [1]

The updated figures originate from a new analysis and interactive mapping project conducted by the Environment America Research and Policy Center alongside the Frontier Group, Electrek reported. [1]

In a separate energy development, Daily Investor reported that a South African agency managing a budget of 292.8 billion rand is currently operating at 44 percent capacity. [2]
